LACANAU
TOURISM
Lacanau is a modern and well-preserved coastal town where you can enjoy many outdoor activities, practice sports, or simply relax. Among the numerous coastal towns of the Côte d'Argent (Silver Coast), Lacanau is one of the most popular and visited. Besides the beach and dunes, Lacanau is a tourist town with a main pedestrian street, cafes, bars, shops, a cultural complex, a cinema, and a very pleasant atmosphere in all seasons.
Lacanau 's city is distributed across three zones (3 poles, 3 environments):
The historic town of Lacanau (La Canau in Occitan), with its markets, shops and services, its 13th-century church, its kiosk and its lakeside port.
The lake , a renowned spot for a wide variety of water sports, is also a place of wonders conducive to relaxation in all seasons. In summer, the beaches come alive, the picnic areas fill up, without ever losing their authentic and welcoming spirit.
The ocean , a renowned international surfing spot, offers the opportunity to enjoy the Lacaze seafront promenade, the shops and entertainment of the Sea Front, with easy access to fine sand and waves. The North, South and Super South beaches, with their Lion area, have been completely renovated. They can be reached by car, on foot or by bicycle, thanks to the extensive network of cycle paths shaded by pine trees.
Tourism employs more than 4,000 people on the Aquitaine coast and generates revenues of around €1.7 billion. Currently, the region has more than 1,000 surf instructors and 19 surf schools (half of which hold the French surf school distinction).
The accommodation offer is complete and diverse: a total of 19,000 beds, mainly belonging to the outdoor hotel sector.
The creation of a conference center in Lacanau is planned, which will lead to the arrival of businesses and corporate tourism to Lacanau and facilitate interconnection with Bordeaux.
Driven by Lacanau , this initiative brings together all institutional stakeholders and aims to develop a truly coherent approach to managing surfing. The idea is to enable the sustainable development of surfing, and to that end, it is important to:
Maintaining attractiveness and promoting economic development.
To provide better management that maximizes benefits and minimizes environmental impact.
Innovating to reconcile regulatory requirements and structural needs.
To regulate in a way that allows for the sustainable development of the activity.
