Since 2014, Laurent Peyrondet, the mayor of Lacanau, has wanted the city's development to be driven by surfing and water skiing. To this end, he has already begun working with national and international surfers, not only to build a lasting legacy but also to continue developing the different disciplines (WSL) .

Lacanau is bidding to host the surfing championships of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which has led it to establish a collaboration with the city of Bordeaux, thus maximizing the resources of both locations (accommodation, transport, media hub, etc.). Its bid already brings together all the economic and institutional stakeholders of the Gironde department and surrounding areas.

Currently, the Municipality is working on the Ocean City 2050, protected by a new erosion control structure and rehabilitated as a balcony overlooking the sea; a pedestrian and cycle path from north to south. Furthermore, this redevelopment of the waterfront cannot be reduced to a matter of "classic" development: it must integrate erosion, a strong natural dynamic that makes the site unstable and fragile.
