INNOVATION
The Ribamontán al Mar Tourism Revitalization Plan is considered a success story and is part of the Master's Degree in Tourism Business Marketing at the University of Cantabria.
The Cantabrian Surf Federation and the Government of Cantabria have created an official system for the recognition of surf instructors, making certification mandatory to practice the profession.
The municipality is frequently invited to forums, conferences, and universities to present its benchmark tourism model.
Innovative projects:
2019 – WAVES LINK AND TEACH (Erasmus+) : promotes student exchange and language learning, culture and European integration, with surfing as a common element.
2021–2023 – INCLUSEA (Erasmus+ Sport) : creation and development of an innovative methodology for teaching adapted surfing, aimed at people with physical and/or sensory disabilities. https://inclusea.eu/about-us/
2023 – SILVER WAVES : a European project that develops innovative social practices related to active aging and the impact of water sports on health and social inclusion.
