WAVE SERIES
The Porto&Matosinhos Wave Series is one of the most important initiatives on the wave sports calendar in the northern region of the country, with a series of events, two of which stand out annually as part of its program.
These are "Surf for All" and "Adapted Surfing," two initiatives that stand out in the area of social responsibility associated with surfing.
SURF & RESCUE
Surf & Rescue aims to bring together surfers and lifeguards in preparation for water rescues, with around 150 people participating.
Training, awareness-raising, and education on prevention and aquatic safety are the focus of this initiative, developed jointly with and in collaboration with the Institute for Maritime Search and Rescue, an agency of the National Maritime Authority responsible for maritime surveillance and safety. The initiative promotes and highlights the link between surfing and aquatic rescue, emphasizing the role and contribution of this community in saving lives throughout the year on Portuguese beaches.
Training in Basic Life Support, first aid, and aquatic rescue is provided for coaches, technicians, and professionals in the surf industry, as well as lifeguards, and awareness campaigns are conducted for the general public. In addition to the training component, rescue demonstrations using various equipment will also be performed.
Surf & Rescue is a project and registered trademark of the Portuguese Surf School Association, which has been developed along the entire national coast, in partnership with the ISN – Institute for Lifesaving at Sea, since 2020.
This initiative has the support of the Matosinhos City Council, and in partnership with the Institute for Lifesaving at Sea, this free training aimed at Surf Schools and Coaches, Surfers and Lifeguards, has the support of the Municipality of Matosinhos.
This training awards 1.4 credit units towards the renewal of IPDJ coaching qualifications.
