ERICEIRA

INDUSTRY

Surfing is one of the pillars of Ericeira 's economy. Beyond attracting thousands of visitors, the sector has given rise to a solid industry comprised of surfboard manufacturers, large specialized shops, licensed schools, international brands, and events of national and international scale. This network of companies and professionals has made the town one of the most important centers of the surf industry in Europe, where artisanal tradition and technological innovation coexist to sustain a local economy strongly linked to the sea.

Ericeira today has one of the highest concentrations of licensed surf schools and camps in Europe, reflecting the central role of surfing in its economy. The number of schools has grown impressively in the last decade, from 12 in 2012 to 44 in 2025, an increase that demonstrates the importance of this sector in local development.

More than four dozen businesses are currently dedicated to teaching and providing surfing experiences, employing hundreds of people, including surf instructors, logistics, accommodation and other support services.
