ARICA
SURF CARE
Arica plays a leading role nationally in the development of social inclusion projects and initiatives, comprehensive programs for people with disabilities, cultural festivals, raising awareness of the marine environment, with special attention to children and young people, as well as in the development of projects to increase the competitiveness of the coastal area with the support of international centers of excellence.

Adapted Social Inclusion Initiatives
Adapta Surf Chile : The dream of integrating children and young people with disabilities into the world of sports has been fulfilled in Arica thanks to the project "Elevating Dreams, Building Opportunities". This initiative, which had the contribution of the Government, allowed 32 minors and young people from Teletón and Municipality programs to participate in adapted surf and bodyboard workshops. In addition, it trained 30 university students as instructors for these aquatic sports and recreational disciplines.
Surf Social Aldea SOS : A social inclusion project designed to encourage sport and healthy living, offering new opportunities to children at social risk through the Akua Surf School, its ideology, and sporting activities.
SUSTAINABILITY AND AWARENESS
Project Safe and Peaceful Sea Turtles : An ecological awareness campaign for the care of the beaches and sea turtles of Arica, carried out in schools and at artistic events in partnership with the Theatre Company, the Entretete art studio, the Reciclos company, and the Akua Surf School.
Coastal Management and Innovation (COMCI)
Center for Integrated Coastal Observation and Management (COMCI) : An ongoing initiative, led by the Arica Activa Foundation, which seeks to implement an integrated coastal management model. Its objective is:
Standardize infrastructure design criteria in light of new oceanographic scenarios (increase in extreme events).
Implement an integrated coastal observation, monitoring and surveillance system (including situational awareness video cameras).
To define strategies for territorial intervention and coastal environmental planning (contamination, erosion, climate change, civil safety, among others).
This initiative, coordinated by a capacity-building program through the Australian center of excellence CSIRO, is a pilot project that will be integrated into the Arica Surf City Competitive Intelligence Platform and is intended to be replicated in other coastal regions of Chile.
