Thanks to the Gulf Stream, the Basque coast enjoys a much milder winter than would be expected for its latitude. The Basque Country (Euskadi) has a mesothermal climate, moderate in temperature, and very rainy.

It is called a humid temperate climate without a dry season, or Atlantic climate. Average annual temperatures are highest in the Basque Country along the coast, around 14ºC.

Although autumn and winter are undoubtedly the most favorable times for waves in the Basque Country, this region can boast of having waves throughout the year.

Waves that can vary from half a meter to 6 meters in height, in areas where the sea provides giant surfable waves such as Punta Galea, Meñakoz, Mundaka, Playa Gris, Orrua and Lemoiz.
