MATOSINHOS
TOURISM
Surf in Matosinhos is a bold project representing Matosinhos on a national and international scale, promoting nautical activities, services, and events for locals, visitors, and tourists.
Its fundamental goal is to offer unique experiences and promote local tourism in a sustainably ambitious way. Whether it's to savor the best fish in the world, surf, take a boat trip, among other sea activities, visit icons of contemporary architecture, or enjoy relaxing moments by the sea and during a stroll along the boardwalks, not forgetting to experience unique cultural and historical moments provided by cultural shows, religious festivities, and historical reenactments, Matosinhos offers you a unique and memorable experience. With a view to integrating, systematizing, structuring, and promoting this diverse tourism offer, the Municipality, in conjunction with various tourism agents and other key actors with maritime motivations, integrates the Nautical Station in Matosinhos , which is currently in operation. This ambitious project provides the Municipality with a platform for cooperation between stakeholders who ensure a high-quality tourism offer, organized from the integrated enhancement of the nautical resources present in the territory, combining accommodation, restaurants, nautical activities and other relevant activities and services to guarantee diverse and integrated tourist experiences for all who visit us. The various Nautical Stations are certified by the Ocean Forum – Association of the Sea Economy, within the framework of the “Nautical Portugal” project, enabling the promotion of the territory targeted for certification at national and international levels through integration into the existing international network of Nautical Stations. The “Matosinhos Nautical Station” project is ongoing, with the possibility of new partners joining at any time. The current project partners develop their activity in diverse sectors, but which, interconnected, can guarantee and realize the objectives of the Nautical Station and enhance a differentiated tourism offer capable of attracting more visitors to the Municipality.
Matosinhos is also one of the few cities with one of the largest cargo and passenger ports (Port of Leixões), one of the best international airports (Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport), one of the best business schools (Porto Business School), an exhibition center with more than 250,000 square meters and several international exhibitions (Exponor). It has high-quality highways that connect directly to a market of millions of consumers (the entire Portuguese market and a considerable part of the Spanish market), the first technological free zone in Portugal, the first 5G city, and is the venue for several events.
