MAR DEL PLATA
INTEREST
The Municipality of General Pueyrredon has a strong interest in becoming the first Argentine city to join the World Surf Cities Network . This ambition is supported by its declaration as the National Surf Capital and its firm intention to promote the local development of surfing and its public and private stakeholders.
The extensive list of champions who contribute their experience, the surf schools, the different types of training, the skills development programs, the seminars and surf workshops held in the city, all within the framework of the WSCN membership, suggest a potential for the development of the sport.
At the same time, membership boosts the local industry with elements related to surfing, the rise of adaptive surfing, and the visibility of local, national, and international surfing events that take place in Mar del Plata .
It is essential to attract surfers from all over the world to the beaches of Mar del Plata , with the purpose of generating cultural, sporting and tourist exchange. The WSCN endorsement encourages amateur surfers to train at surf schools and professional athletes to participate in international championships.
Furthermore, joining the WSCN means putting the city on the map of surfing activities globally; for this reason, the presence of visitors — whether athletes, coaches, volunteers, assistants, judges, journalists and other companions — allows them to discover, enjoy and visit the city, emphasizing the beaches, visits to surf schools and, specifically, high-performance schools.
At the same time, adapted surfing athletes will be able to see the progress made in accessible tourism for people with disabilities, reduced mobility and/or reduced communication, given that the city has been working for over 10 years to offer more and better inclusive services in hotels, restaurants, recreational services and bathing facilities, among others.
The cultural, sporting, and tourism exchange between the World Surf Cities Network and Mar del Plata as a tourist destination is transcendental, making its dissemination through social media with audiovisual content and mass media outlets, including local, national, and international journalists, fundamental.
