LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA

LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA

INDUSTRY

The surf industry in the city has an economic impact exceeding 10 million euros per year, with more than 20,000 annual practitioners, including locals and visitors. Especially after the 2020 pandemic, the growth in users and visitors related to surfing has been very noticeable throughout its value chain.

In the city, there are several surf schools that have public authorizations from the city council to operate on the beaches and that comply with the basic requirements established (according to the Canary Islands Surf Federation) regarding the training of their instructors and civil liability insurance, among other things.

In the context of schools and accommodation, the city council, together with the private sector, promoted the implementation of the Integrated Tourism Quality System in Destinations (SICTED), a basic standard that ensures the existence of regulated procedures in companies and operators, which benefits the visitor or user, whether local or not.
