LACANAU
SURF CARE
Lacanau is a city of opportunities and wants everyone to find their place, regardless of their level of experience.
This is a community with a strong and dense collaborative fabric: more than a hundred associations linked to the world of surfing (the Lacanau Surf Club already has more than 1,600 members and 20 employees).
Lacanau also engaged in genuine work of social integration and education through surfing and water skiing. For example, in the 1990s, LSC developed Garden of Waves®, a surfing course for children aged 5 to 8, adapted in terms of supervision and, above all, a lot of fun, now replicated throughout France, but certainly none like the original.
In 2018, the UNSS France Surf Championship was held here, a championship that brought together all federated French surfers and served to recognize Lacanau 's unparalleled experience in surfing. Many events have been created in collaboration with the Lacanau Surf Club, such as the all-female and children's events, always remembering that the important thing is that everyone can put their skills and knowledge into practice.
Lacanau Surf Club was the first club to welcome and develop adapted surfing for people with disabilities (see surfing).
In 2005, the first steps were taken in terms of environmental awareness, and from there the "Surfing Nature" program emerged. Recently, Lacanau embarked on a new environmentally conscious event by signing the Eco project, carried out by the association "rompiendo las olas" (breaking the waves), and with the support of Ademe. Lacanau 's focus on surfing and gliding also allows him to think about new conditions of circulation within the city and in the shared spaces of the coast.
Furthermore, Lacanau is a development community that provides access not only to surfing, but also to water skiing and skating. Thus, it has a water slide (glisse), has been responsible for building and maintaining skating rinks, free showers at each of the beach access points (more than 6 fully equipped access points in Lacanau ), maintenance and development of the promenade parking lot, The Ocean View on the central beach, a large parking lot in the pine forest that runs from north to south, construction and maintenance of beach access (stairs, walkways, ramps), sanitary facilities (North, South and Central beaches), a fire station open from May to October (6 stations in Lacanau ), jet ski emergency stations and landing zones for helicopter rescues.
