BAHIA DE BANDERAS

CITY

Surfing arrived in Bahía de Banderas in the 1960s and 1970s, when adventurous American surfers began exploring Mexico's Pacific coast in search of consistent, uncrowded waves. They found the perfect balance of warm waters, good waves, and a welcoming community in Sayulita, San Pancho, Lo de Marcos, and Punta de Mita.

Sayulita quickly became the epicenter of the region, attracting both locals and foreigners who established the foundations of the first local surf culture. Over time, Bahía de Banderas and its small towns became known among surfers worldwide. Sayulita, in particular, transformed from a quiet fishing village into a multicultural community of surfing, art, and gastronomy, a symbol of good energy and tourism linked to the sea.
