SALINAS

Article Index

The city of Salinas belonging to the canton of the same name, is located in the province of Santa Elena at the foot of the sea geographically at the most outstanding tip of the Ecuadorian coast. It is considered the most important spa in Ecuador. It is located 140 km from the city of Guayaquil (international airport), in front of the Pacific Ocean coast.

In Salinas, the most prominent beach is called La Fae where the first National Surfing Championship of Ecuador was held in 1984 and later in 1985, and then it hosted several national championships over the years and also major events hospitalizations, such as Bolivarian 2001, Pan American 2003 and the first ISA World Surfing World Championship in 2004 in Ecuador. Then two ISA World Junior Surf Championships in 2009 and 2011 respectively. The Fae is considered the most consistent wave of Ecuador.

It is important to mention that this beach is located within a military base currently part of a coastal marine reserve, Remacopse (Protected Reserve, National Park). For what follows the rules of conservation of the fauna and flora of the place, it has a good beach break, very close to other waves known as the Chocolatera, Tres Cruces, Dead Point and also La Bahía, all operating all year round mainly with southern waves . Other very important waves that stand out basically in the high season (with north waves mainly) are Anconcito, Punta Carnero, Mar Bravo, La Chueca, Paco Illezcas, Playero Miramar, La Puntilla, among others. In other words, there is an extensive range of wave offerings for all tastes (Point breaks, Beach breaks, etc.) and levels.

Another interesting aspect to highlight is that on the beaches of Salinas, surfing took place in Ecuador, after being born in another nearby location, the main and pioneer families of surfers in the early 70s took Salinas and Fae as their headquarters and base in particular, from where Montañita and other recognized Ecuadorian waves were discovered towards the north of the coast.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, this town represents one of the most important tourist attractions within the beach segment on the Ecuadorian coast, due to the large influx of local and foreign visitors that it receives each year, it is estimated that only in the Remacopse (National Park, where is the Fae) more than 300,000 people enter = tourists a year.

The remarkable tourist influx that this city receives causes its economy to be boosted, creating jobs that are used by locals and people coming from different parts of the region and the country.

Our interest is to consolidate the city of Salinas worldwide as a tourist surfing destination having all the capacity for that. The types of tourism that we are most interested in promoting besides surfing are cycling, diving, kayaking, beach tennis, whale and bird watching, among other activities that are already being developed with great force.

We want to consolidate strategic alliances with other cities belonging to the WSCN that manage management models which give us instructions and guides to be able to implement them in Salinas, and thus have a sustainable development. For our part, we are working on improving the quality of the tourist offer as well as tourism security, for this reason in surfing issues we seek to integrate the authorities (Prefecture, Municipalities, Ministries) with the main clubs, surf schools and surfers representative of the place to develop projects that benefit everyone.

Salinas being one of the main tourist destinations on the coast of Ecuador as well as nationally, the people who visit it in love with its charms and surrounded by its natural resources decide to stay and live in this town, this has given way to that becomes a multicultural society allowing diversity in the offer of its services, including gastronomic and thus has become a destination of gastronomic innovation for its diversity of restaurants with different designs and themes, types of food, etc. Restaurants that offer quality services (most) care about proper food handling, synonymous with quality, etc.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Tourism, together with the Municipality of Salinas, concerned about the quality of tourist service by public servants, has undertaken projects with Training Workshops on Safety and Hospitality Protocols for police officers working in the town, this has It has been an innovation and has become a trend since in the rest of the country's tourist destinations this management has been adapted.

It is important to mention that the great growth of surf tourism has diversified activities in such a way that night tourism has developed practically on a par. Private investment with its new ventures has drawn so much attention from national and international tourism that a large number of foreigners, especially Americans and Europeans, have opted for ventures in Salinas.

The offer of tourist services in Salinas is closely linked to the tourist attractions in the area that are mostly natural resources. Within the town is the Remacopse National Park (Great tourist attraction nationwide with the Morro viewpoint), and other attractions such as salt wells, whale and bird watching, parks and sports centers promoted by the Municipality of Salinas, museums also They are part of the offer. The town of Salinas has 2 types of cars that are the main ones: Adventure tourism (SURF) and gastronomy framed in the Adventure Tourism Regulation of Ecuador although it is also classified as sports tourism and on the other hand night tourism, which It is characterized by the activation of its streets at night and all its bars and clubs, where many young people decide on this place to spend their vacations, end of the year trips, etc.
