During a famous competition called « Lacanau Pro » in 2015, Laurent Peyrondet, Mayor of Lacanau, President of the Médoc Atlantique Tourism Office, was awarded the very first Surf City certification by Jean-Luc Arassus, President of the Fédération Française de Surf (French Surfing Federation).

The French Surfing Federation’s President outlined in detail the new certification created to highlight Communes that provide a welcoming and supportive environment for surfing in its various forms to the local and tourist population. The three values that the Federation wants to emphasize through the “Surf City” certification are citizenship, civility and solidarity.

The city of Lacanau was awarded “Surf City” – 3 stars. This award proves that it is one of the landmark arenas for French surfers.
